Gun Dog Training

Here at GCK we understand that not everybody has the need for an extremely high-level competition retriever. But we do believe that everybody deserves to have the best hunting companion possible!

This program is for the dogs that are strictly going to be hard-core hunting companions. In this program, your dog will go through the same basic steps as our competition Retrievers, but after the basics are completed, we will focus on having your dog as prepared as possible for any and all hunting scenarios they may face.

We believe exposure and life experience are what truly make a great gun dog. Therefore, when your dog is in this program, we will expose them to decoy spreads, four wheeler rides, boat rides, training in our on-site flooded timber pond, training out of an A-frame, training out of a pit blind, and we will put as many live birds in front of them as possible.

There are two stages of Gundog training and that is a basic gundog and an advanced gundog.

Basic Gundog- With a basic gundog you can expect an average of 5 months of training, with 4 being the bare minimum. When your dog has completed their basic gun dog program, they will have been through obedience both on and off leash, E collar conditioning, force fetch(delivery to hand), be steady to shoot, and be able to pick up difficult single retrieves and simple multiple retrieves that they see fall out of most hunting scenarios.

Advanced Gundog-  An advanced gundog has gone through the basic gundog program and will take further steps to being a much more polished retriever.
